Our Story

A Legacy of Community, Family, and Care

The history of Falardeau Funeral Home is more than just a timeline; it is a story of family dedication and deep roots in the Baldwinsville community. For over 80 years, the Falardeau name has been a constant for local families, offering a steady hand and a familiar face during life’s most difficult chapters.

The Early Years

In February 1940, J. Albert Falardeau partnered with Joseph T. Glanville to form the Falardeau and Glanville Funeral Home. At that time, "undertaking parlors" were often storefronts or dual-purpose businesses, and it was still very common for wakes and services to be held in the family’s private residence.

Following this tradition, the business was run directly out of Mr. Falardeau’s home at 9 Grove Street. By 1951, the partnership dissolved as Joseph Glanville moved on to the next chapter of his career. Albert became the sole proprietor and, to better accommodate the families he served, moved the operation to 17 Grove Street in 1952.

Growth and the Move to Downer Street

The next generation joined the firm in 1962 when Albert’s son, Don E. Falardeau, became a licensed funeral director and partner. Together, father and son worked to keep up with the growing needs of a changing Baldwinsville. When Albert retired in 1971, Don took the lead.

Don recognized the need for a modern facility that could provide more space and comfort for grieving families. In 1977, he purchased the property at 93 Downer Street. After a year of extensive renovations and the addition of a 2,500-square-foot wing, the doors opened in May 1978. This building remains our home to this day.

Three Generations of Tradition

The family legacy reached its third generation when Don’s son, Joe Falardeau, joined the business in 1990. After graduating from the Simmons Institute and completing his residency at Fagan Funeral Home, in Bath, NY, Joe returned to Baldwinsville to serve the community he called home. Like his father and grandfather, Joe was known for his genuine compassion and his deep, personal understanding of his neighbors.

A Time of Transition

The community was shaken by the sudden and unexpected passing of Joe Falardeau in 2013. In the years that followed, the Falardeau family spent a great deal of time reflecting on how to best honor the firm’s reputation. They wanted to ensure that the high standards the Falardeau family worked so hard to build would continue long into the future.

In 2020, after much careful consideration, the funeral home was sold to Albert Clos. Albert purchased the business not just as an owner, but as a steward of the Falardeau legacy, committed to providing the same level of personal care that has defined this firm since 1940.

A Connected History

Our story is uniquely tied to another name in Central New York funeral service: Allanson Glanville Tappan. Albert Falardeau’s original business partner, Joseph T. Glanville, eventually partnered with Edward W. Allanson in Phoenix in 1950. That firm later grew under the leadership of the Tappan family, serving the Phoenix and Lysander areas for decades.

Today, those two histories have come back together. Allanson Glanville Tappan now operates as part of the Falardeau Funeral Home. While both names carry their own distinct heritage, we are now unified under one ownership and one consistent standard of care.

Our Mission Today

While the world has changed since Albert Falardeau first opened his doors on Grove Street, our core mission remains the same. We are here to treat our neighbors with dignity, to offer a personal touch in an increasingly impersonal world, and to honor everyone entrusted to our care with the utmost respect.
