Col. William "Buzz" Sawyer (Ret.)

Col. William "Buzz" Sawyer (Ret.), 83, of Phoenix, passed away on December 20, 2024, at Morningstar Care Center in Oswego. Born on May 31, 1941, to the late Benjamin and Margaret Sawyer of Fulton, Bill attended Fulton Schools and graduated from Oswego Catholic High School in 1960. His commitment to service began in high school when he joined the NYS Army National Guard, leading to a distinguished 35-year career. He retired in 1994 as Battalion Commander of the 108th Infantry 1st Battalion Mechanized at the Auburn Armory, achieving a career-long goal.

In addition to his parents, Bill is predeceased by his sister, Maryann Basic.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Patricia Marra Sawyer; daughter, Lindalee (Steve); sons, David (Cheryl) and Dennis (Jennifer); granddaughters, Alaina Sawyer, Elizabeth (Angelo) Biondo, and Patton Sawyer; great-grandsons, Cole Biondo and soon-to-arrive Sawyer Biondo; and his sister, Janet Lagrou.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 4, from 1-3pm at Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville, followed by a Funeral Service at 3pm.
