Obituary

William "Coach Bill" Neufang, 81, of Baldwinsville passed away Monday, June 20, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Syracuse, raised in Solvay and lived in Baldwinsville since 1957. Bill earned his bachelor and master degrees from SUNY of Cortland. He taught social studies in the Baldwinsville School District for 31 years and coached JV and varsity football for 29 years and Junior High wrestling for 17 years. He was the "voice" of NYS wrestling at the War Memorial for over 25 years. Bill was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a communicant of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and served as an usher and also on the church council. He was a negotiator for the NYS Teachers Assn., served on the Baldwinsville Village Board and the Baldwinsville School Board. He was an honorary member of Mcharrie's Legacy.

Bill was predeceased by his sister, Phronsie McCarthy and brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Joanne Neufang.

Survivors: his wife of 56 years, Mary L. Neufang; his children; Kathleen (Gregg) MacDonald of Yardley, PA, William (Patty) Neufang of Liverpool, Karl (Tracey) Neufang of Liverpool; Nancy (Anthony) Stopyra of Newark, DE, grandchildren; Erin (Steve), Jessica (Tony), Gillian, Mallory, Samantha, Kyle, Zachary, Jenny, Emma, and Chaya; great-grandchildren, Allison, Karl and Jagger; his brothers, Lt. Col. Richard (Helen) Neufang of Burlington, KY, Robert (Joan) Neufang of Solvay and Edward (Ginny) Neufang of Tuscon, AZ; his brother-in-law, James McCarthy of Tuscon, AZ; several nieces, nephews, students and athletes.

Services: 10:00am Friday June 24, 2011 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church Baldwinsville. Entombment in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Warners. Calling hours are 3-7pm Thursday, June 23, 2011 at St. Mark's, 2840 Cold Springs Road.
