Mechowski
March 17, 1919 – November 2, 2006
Walter E. Mechowski, 87, of Moravia formerly of Baldwinsville passed away Thursday, November 2, 2006 at Auburn Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Mechowski was a decorated WW II veteran who was an original member of the highly decorated 509th Parachute Battalion where he participated in the first American combat jump in Africa, (Operation Torch) followed by campaigns in Sicily and Italy. He earned three Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart and a personal commendation from General Mark Clark. He was a retiree of Carrier Corporation and resided in Cato for many years. Walter was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth Myers Mechowski.
Survivors: a son Walter (Rose) Mechowski of Moravia; six daughters, Patricia (Robert) Hare of Cato, Martha (Anthony) Sperry of Baldwinsville, Marilyn (Harry) Dodge of Tampa, FL, Mary Picciano of No. Syracuse, Madeline (Jerry) Lwodarski of No. Syracuse, and Margaret (Tim) Boularice of Phoenix, NY; 21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services: 1:00 pm Monday, November 6, 2006 at Falardeau Funeral Home, Baldwinsville. Spring burial in Union Hill Cemetery, Cato. Calling hours are 11:00 - 1:00pm Monday prior to the service at the funeral home, 93 Downer Street.
