Obituary

Viola 'Vi' Mary (Boyden) Schlereth, of Baldwinsville, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2023 at Syracuse Home after a brief illness.

Viola was born on February 22, 1932, in Brockton, MA to the late Mary A. (Warkelis) Boyden-Buyvidas and Steven Boyden-Buyvidas.   Viola was pre-deceased by her beloved brother Albert M. Boyden and her lifelong friend, Barbara J. Lutz of Brockton, MA.  Viola was a proud 1950 graduate of Brockton High School, and she then earned a secretarial scholarship at Katherine Gibbs College.   She went on to work for the Dean of Engineering at Columbia University in New York City where she met her husband.  They moved to Syracuse for his job at General Electric, then later relocated to Baldwinsville, NY.  Viola worked for many years as an Executive Assistant in HR at P&C Warehouse.

Viola is survived by her partner of twenty-four years, Terrence D. May, her children Lori (Schlereth) Campoli of Raleigh, NC and Barry Schlereth of Syracuse;  grandchildren Brian A. Campoli of New York, NY and Jake M. Campoli of Atlanta, GA.  Viola was a much-loved mother and grandmother and loving partner to Terry.

Viola made many trips to Raleigh to visit her grandchildren, as well as to Cape Cod to visit her brother.  Viola was very proud of her Lithuanian heritage and shared many stories growing up in 'The Village', as the Lithuanian section of Brockton was known at the time.  After many years residing in the Candlewyck neighborhood and raising two children, Viola and Terry moved to McHarrie Town where they enjoyed an active social life with her many friends.  She especially enjoyed the Sunday evening Patio Chats, sitting on her front porch enjoying Terry's 'award winning' hydrangeas and chatting with neighbors as they walked by.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, May 27 @ 9:30am at St. Mary's Church, 47 Syracuse Street, Baldwinsville with a private burial at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Female Charitable Society of the Village of Baldwinsville, 10 River Street, Baldwinsville, NY 13027.
