IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vickie (Elizabeth)
L. Friar
April 1, 1947 – November 20, 2023
Vickie (Elizabeth) Lee Friar was born April 1, 1947 to Calvin and Evelyn Bitler in Fremont, Ohio. She had two sisters: Marshelle Lorentz and Claudia Reimer. She married Fred W Friar on February 24, 1965 and bore two sons, Aaron Weston Friar and Frederick Troy Friar. Mama Vickie was a strong-willed, energetic, and generous organizer who lived in Holland, OH; Elmore, OH; Salem, NH; and Syracuse, NY. She served several decades as a legal secretary and paralegal, fourteen years as a coach for Bible Quizzing, several decades as a Sunday School Superintendent, and alto singer in various church choirs. She was mother of two boys and made home-cooked meals for family and friends; in the tradition of her grandmother, whose pie making-business produced 80 pies a day, Mama Vickie's last words involved relinquishing a long held pumpkin pie recipe to a friend.
She reposed peacefully in her sleep at her home in Syracuse, NY on Monday, November 20, 2023. She is survived by her husband Fred Friar, her two sons, and their respective families with grandchildren Amanda Rombough, Benjamin Friar, Anastasia Friar, Tatiana Friar, Nicolai Friar, Alexandra Friar, and Alexey Friar and great-grandchild Parker Rombough.
With the souls of the righteous that have finished their course give rest, O Lord, to the soul of Thy handmaiden Elizabeth, preserving her in the blessed life which is with Thee, O Only Lover of mankind. In the place of Thy rest O Lord where all Thy saints repose, give rest to the soul of Thy servant for you are good and the Lover of Mankind. Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages Amen. May her memory be eternal!
