Sylvia Rose Disotell of Largo, Fl., passed away on March 30, 2026 after a long battle with cancer and heart issues. She was born in Cortland, NY, on September 9, 1942 to Rose (Gabriel) and Silvio Sardo.
After graduating from Cortland Jr. Sr. High School in 1960 Sylvia attended SUNY Cortland and graduated with a BS in Education. She began her first teaching position in DeRuyder, NY. After moving to Liverpool, she taught in the Baldwinsville Central School District for the rest of her career.
While working in Baldwinsville, Sylvia was active in many professional organizations. She was secretary of the Baldwinsville Teachers Association, on the NEA Board of Directors, Political Action Chair for Region 7, and on the cabinet of the Board of Directors. She founded the Subtitue Teachers Association of Baldwinsville when she retired and served as president for two years.
Sylvia moved to Florida to be nearer her family. She had many hobbies and interests. She loved to travel, read, crochet, play Mah Jong and any card game. She belonged to and was secretary of the Tampa Bay Area Women's Club, Inc. At her park she served on the Activites Committee, and the Shangri La Home Owner's Association.
She was predeceased by her sister, Jean; and brother, Lawrence
Sylvia is survived by two sons, Joseph (Jessie) and Lawrence (Candace); grandson, David of Largo, Fl; sister, Arlene Sardo of Baldwinsville; nieces, Maria (John) Leana of Marcellus, Gina (Dino) Mazzara of Syracuse, and Lisa (David) King of Charlottesville, VA; sisters-in-law, Regina Sardo of Syracuse and Jane Sardo of Central Islip, NY; and several grandnieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 9, at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church, 7333 O'Brien Rd., Baldwinsville. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Cortland
