Shirley M. Monroe, 89, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026 at the Centers at St. Camillus. She was born March 15, 1936, to the late Howard and Stella Temple.
Shirley found great joy in her home and family. She enjoyed crafting, sewing, painting, and tending to her flower gardens. As a young woman, she loved figure skating and once wrote in her yearbook that she hoped to become an amateur figure skater. That love of skating carried over to roller skating, where she met James Monroe. The two were married for nearly 70 years, building a life together rooted in devotion and family.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her brother, Howie Temple.
She is survived by her beloved husband, James Monroe; daughter, Donna Monroe and husband Brian Moran; son, Tim Monroe and wife Yuka Kurihara; grandchildren, Matthew Oliver, Cali Oliver, Adam Monroe, Tyler Monroe, Brandon Moran, and Devon Moran.
Calling hours will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville, where a funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be private in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery.
