Obituary

Ronald E. Haskins (Ron) of Baldwinsville passed away on Wednesday April 26, 2023, with his family by his side.

Ron was born in Syracuse to Ken and Mildred (Dunn) Haskins on  September 14, 1942. He was raised in Dewitt and Fayetteville, and graduated from Fayetteville-Manlius High School. After high school, Ron attended Syracuse University, where he earned a B.S. in Accounting, and also became a life long fan of all things Orangemen.

From his time as an Eagle Scout while a young man, Ron always loved the outdoors. Although he no longer went camping and canoeing, he remained the family's chief expert fire builder.

Ron proudly served as a member of the Air National Guard, working primarily as an air traffic controller, and retired in 1990 with the rank of Major after 24 years of service.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Linda (Neidhardt) Haskins; his daughters Christine Shaer (Philip), and Amy Haskins; his four grandchildren - Forest, Arden, Emma, and Mason Shaer; his brother, Wayne Haskins; his sister, Irene Hebert; and many nieces and nephews.

Ron's grandchildren joined Grandpa on many adventures, having fun with him while golfing, fishing, working on projects, and enjoying countless treats and breakfasts at the diner. He will be fondly remembered by his entire family for his quick smile, his mischievous nature, his lessons on how to problem solve anything, his rarely losing a card game, his love of golf and Cape Cod adventures, his surprise trips for ice cream, and is his faith and pride in all of us.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday May 1st at Our Lady of Hope Mausoleum at St. Mary's Cemetery in Dewitt, entrance on Genesee Street. Family and friends are welcome to come and celebrate Ron's life.  If anyone wishes to do something in Ron's name, please feel free to contribute to NYS National Heritage trust and support the Adirondacks, or head outside and enjoy a walk in the woods.
