Robert E, Yackel, 93, of Warners passed away Friday, January 20, 2017, at his home. He was born and raised in Syracuse, moving to Warners in 1967. Bob developed the largest independent insurance adjustment agency north of New York City. A US Army veteran of WW II, he became a MP and served in the Sugamo Prison in Japan where he personally guarded over Hadeki Tojo and "Tokyo Rose". Bob was a life member of the Warners Volunteer Fire Department, a former captain and a member of the fire police. He was also a member of the Camillus Historical Society. Bob was well known as a hero to many, for his fabulous sense of humor and unwavering ethics.
He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years Ann Yackel; three children, David, Sharon and Bobby; a sister Minnie and four brothers, Francis, Paul, Kenneth and Richard.
Surviving are his children; Jeff (Michelle) Yackel of Atlanta, Erik Yackel of Solvay, Derek (Melissa) Yackel of Warners and Gary Yackel of Atlanta; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harold, Jack and Clifford Yackel; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are 4-7pm Monday , January 23, 2017, at the Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville. Funeral services are 11:00 am Tuesday , January 24, 2017, at the funeral home with burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery,
