Robert G. Whitman, 87, of Brooks Place, Baldwinsville, died Tuesday at Syracuse Home Association, Baldwinsville. Born in Truxton, he was a 1933 graduate of Cortland High School and a 1938 graduate of Crane School of Music, and received his bachelor's degree in 1946 from State University College at Potsdam and his master's degree in 1947 from Syracuse University. He was chairman of the music department of Baldwinsville School District from 1949 to 1973. After his retirement, he worked for Chestnut Ridge Health Center and was bingo inspector for Lysander and Baldwinsville from 1986 to 2000. He was a communicant of St. Augustine's Church, Baldwinsville, an officer of Onondaga County Music Educators Association and New York State School Music Association, and a member of Baldwinsville Community Band. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. His wife, Barbara M., died in 1993.

Survivors: Two daughters, Mary B. Wilkinson of Baldwinsville and Megan W. Widger of Clarksville, Md.; a son, David R. of Glens Falls; eight grandchildren.

Services: 10:15 a.m. Saturday in St. Augustine's Church, 7333 O'Brien Road, Baldwinsville. Burial, St. Mary's Cemetery, Baldwinsville. Calling hours, 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville.
