Obituary

Robert L. McClain, 79, of Syracuse, NY, left this world suddenly on October 27, 2025, passing from the embrace of his devoted wife into the arms of his Savior. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Bob dedicated 21 years of honorable service to his country, embodying the values of integrity, courage, and commitment throughout his military career.

Born in 1946 in Ridgway, PA, Bob answered the call to serve at a young age, embarking on a journey that would take him across the globe. During his two decades in the Air Force, he served with distinction in:

· The Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service - April 1971-October 1973

· The Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service - June 1976-May 1978

· The Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service - July 1978-March 1981

· The Meritorious Service Medal for Outstanding Service - 1981-1986

· National Defense Service Medal

· Air Force Overseas Short-term Ribbon

· Air Force Overseas Long-tour Ribbon

· Air Force Longevity for Service Ribbon with 4 OLC

· AD-TAC Inspector General Award 1982-1985,

· Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon with 1BSS

Earning the respect and admiration of his peers and superiors alike.

Bob served the military in the following locations:

· Entry in New Haven, CT

· San Antonio, Texas

· Kingsley Field, Oregon

· Philippines

· New Hampshire

· San Vito, Italy

· Point Arena, California

· Montauk, Long Island

· Langley, Virginia

· Mountain Home, Idaho

After retiring from active duty, Bob continued to serve his community in the Kane, PA Lions Club, volunteer fire departments and in several roles' at churches in PA and NY. He most recently served as an Elder at New Hope Church. He was always guided by the same sense of duty and compassion that defined his military career. He had a love for the outdoors including hunting, fishing and golf.

He is survived by his wife, Donna McClain, Syracuse, NY; children, Lori McClain (William Connington), Spokane, WA, Steven McClain (Christine), Twin Falls, ID and Nicole Black (Chris), Hawley, PA; brother, Kenneth McClain (Carolyn) Rapid City, SD; grandchildren, Michael Kowalski, Joseph Kowalski and Nicholas Kowalski, Andrew McClain (Brittney), Lindsey Allen (Jeremy), Jenna McClain (Daniel Veuger) and Abby McClain. Bob was also blessed with several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. His family will forever cherish his unwavering love, wisdom, and strength.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at New Hope Church, 7587 State Fair Blvd, Baldwinsville, NY from 10:00 - 11:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:30 AM.  Burial with full military honors will be held at 2:00 PM, at the New York State Veterans Cemetery, Romulus, NY.

In lieu of flowers, Bob kindly requested that donations be made to Jentzen Franklin Haitian Crisis Relief P.O. Box 315 Gainesville, GA 30503.

Bob's legacy of service, sacrifice, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
