Richard H. Purdy, Jr., 59, of Baldwinsville, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010. Mr. Purdy was born in Rockville Centre, New York, and moved with his family to Sherburne, New York, where he graduated from Sherburne-Earlville High School in 1969. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the US Army, and was awarded an Army Commendation, amoung other medals. He worked for Wilson Foods before starting Statewide Foods, a seafood distributor in downtown Syracuse. He later worked for Sysco Corporation and as a real estate broker before re-establishing Statewide as an independent broker.

Surviving are his wife of 32 years, the former Stacey Sherman; his children, Kevin and Amanda; his father, Richard, and mother, Celeste; five brothers, Robert, James, William, Michael, and Daniel; and three sisters, Deborah (Seward), Denise (Cambell), and Catherine (Schwarting); and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at a later date.
