Richard D. Monica, Sr., 82, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2009 at his home in Clay. He was born in Syracuse, and has lived in the area all of his life. He was an avid fisherman and retired from the Painters Local Union 31, of Syracuse after 61 years.

Survivors: his wife, Mabel E.; four daughters, Donna Applebee of Port Byron, Patricia Monica of Baldwinsville, Gloria Potempa of Baldwinsville and Becky Monica of Chapel Hill, TN; four sons, Richard of Kent, NY, Tom of Bridgeport and Ken and Scott of Baldwinsville; four step-sons, Arthur Carista of Potsdam, Michael Claflin of Mattydale, Fred Carista of Syracuse and Steven Carista of Syracuse; two sisters, Victoria Swartz of N. Syracuse and Irene Harrington of Potsdam; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
