Richard J. Kowalski passed away February 23, 2023 in a local retirement home after a short illness at age 88.  A Baldwinsville native, he attended school locally, and upon graduation, attended and graduated from Lemoyne College with a degree in accounting.  He served in the New York Air National Guard, and soon thereafter began his career with the Federal Government as a contract specialist for the Department of the Air Force.  His career took him and his family from New York, to the Los Angeles area, and finally to Albuquerque, New Mexico.  He attained the position of Deputy Director of Contract Administration for Headquarters, Air Force Contract Management Division, overseeing systems contract administration for all Air Force contractor plants throughout the country. In his leisure time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, actively supported his sons as they pursued their childhood activities, and learned to ski and golf.  He was an active member of his local Catholic parish, and also enjoyed gardening, an interest passed down from his parents.

He and his wife Angela enjoyed retirement in Albuquerque, but eventually felt compelled to return to their family roots, returning to Baldwinsville and living in McHarrie Town.

He was a kind, patient, humble and generous man known for his wry humor and quick smile.  He passed on lessons in character and integrity by example. He will be eternally missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents Frank and Hattie Kowalski, and brothers Frank and Robert.  He is survived by his loving wife Angela, and two devoted sons, Richard of Kaiserslautern, Germany, and Peter of Brussels, Belgium, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and granddaughter.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Baldwinsville on April 26th.
