Norma Marie Wood, age 84, passed away on October 16, 2026. Norma was born on February 16, 1942, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late George and Ruth (Beischel) Kiffmeyer. Born Norma Marie Kiffmeyer, she grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was the youngest of three children. Norma loved to talk about her growing up years with her family and friends.
Whether recalling beloved childhood memories (one of her favorites was the racoons she and her family adopted) or reminiscing about her love of horseback riding and dancing in her youth, Norma had a knack for sharing the stories that shaped her life. Norma was a devout Catholic and had fond memories of attending Seton Catholic Girls high school. After high school, Norma married Dennis Morgan and they lived in Camillus, NY.
During their 18 years together, Norma and Dennis raised two children, Darby and Scott. Norma loved being a mother and took her children camping, hiking, and on numerous adventures. She was also a very talented seamstress and made many of her children’s clothes when they were young.
In 1987, Norma married the love of her life, Irving Wood. They spent more than 40 years together before Irv’s passing in 2023. In her adult years, Norma enjoyed playing tennis, golf, Bridge and bowling. She also shared Irv’s passion for S.U. sports. They had so much fun tailgating with their friends for every home Football game. Norma also found time for one of her other passions—cooking! She often made lavish dinners for her family and friends (salmon croquets, beef bourguignon, etc.) and every item on the menu for the holidays was homemade (and delicious).
Norma and Irv traveled extensively and one of her favorite memories was their trip to Jerusalem. They loved exploring the World and spending time together (and with their little dog Suzy). Norma was happiest when laughing with family and friends, taking early morning walks, or simply relaxing by the pool. Norma spent the last years (very well cared for) at Artis Senior Living in Briarcliff Manor, NY. Norma died peacefully from Alzheimer’s disease with her daughter and the wonderful care partners at Artis by her side. The light Norma brought into every room was contagious and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Norma is survived by her daughter Darby (George) Melnik, grandsons Alex and Sam Melnik; son, R. Scott Morgan (Cindi) and granddaughter Lara Morgan; as well as Irv’s children and grandchildren, Sheila (Martha Patton) Wood, Sharon Sparrow and Shirley Guidroz; Hannah (Christian Neumeister) Sparrow, Zack (Chloe) Sparrow and Jared (Lauren) Guidroz.
She was predeceased by her husband Irving Wood, sister Margie (Kiffmeyer) Maltry, and brother Robert Kiffmeyer, cats – Morris and Charlie, dogs – Morgan and Suzy.
A funeral service will be held on November 7 at St. Josephs Catholic church located at 5600 Genesee St., Camillus, NY 13031. Calling hours are from 9:30 to 10:30 with Mass to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the SPCA in honor of Norma’s love of animals.
