Matthew James Gilbert, 48 of Baldwinsville, passed away on December 09, 2023 after a long and courageously fought battle with a very rare cancer. Matt went home to be with God and family waiting to bring him peace on his journey. In his final days Matthew was surrounded by his loving wife, children and family.

Born in Watertown, Matthew was the youngest of five children. He graduated from CW Baker High School, class of 1992. He was an active football player and wrestler. Matthew went on to achieve several mechanic certifications from BOCES trade school. He was employed by Premier Fire Apparatus as a service manager (we are grateful for their support).  He excelled as a Master certified diesel mechanic and could fix anything with an engine. Matt was a 'Jack of all trades', could build anything, loved working with his hands, was skilled in carpentry, home remodeling and finishing.
Matthew loved his family, enjoyed spending time chatting, playing cards, games and watching the Discovery channel.
He was an avid deer hunter, frequented the Salmon River and Sandy Creek as a fly fisherman, loved boating, gardening and catching up with friends and family.

Matthew is predeceased by his mother, Trina Gilbert.

He is survived by his soulmate, loving wife and forever love, Kristin; children Dakota Gilbert, Charlie Wolff, Kolin Wolff; father, Raymond (Lillian); brothers, John Bell, Donald (Amy) Gilbert; sisters, Tammy (Dave Mosher) Gilbo, Ann (Patrick) Malfi; stepsisters, Irene (Dean) Harris, Tina (Ron) Delaney; stepbrothers, Thomas (Tracy) McDermid, Shawn (Heather) McDermid; and many aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Calling hours will be held from 4-7 pm, Thursday December 14, at Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville. A Funeral service will be held at 11 AM Friday at Trinity Assembly of God, 4398 NY-31, Clay, NY 13041.

A special thank you to all the doctors & nurses at Upstate Cancer Center and Hospice as well as family and friends that took time to visit, call and offer their prayers.
