Mary Madison Rodriguez
Gort
d. Sep 28, 2026
Mary Madison Rodriguez Gort of Largo, Florida, passed away Monday September 28th at the age of 75. Born in Syracuse, New York, she was a graduate and Valedictorian of Corcoran High School and later earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from SUNY Oswego. She retired from NY Telephone (now Verizon) in a supervisory role before relocating to Largo, Florida in 2004.
Mary was a robust yet quiet soul who never strove for accolades or attention, though both would have been well deserved. A gifted quilter, she adorned the homes of her loved ones for years with her timeless works of fabric art. Mary prided herself on her work ethic and self sufficiency, and devoted many hours to volunteering for those in need, including teaching with the non-profit group, Literacy Volunteers of Greater Syracuse, where she would ultimately meet her husband of over 20 years, Miguel Rodriguez Gort.
A beautiful friend, daughter, sister, wife, aunt, grandmother and mother, Mary will most be remembered for her intellect, strong character, wisdom, selflessness, and unrivaled love of poetry and literature.
Mary is predeceased by her parents, John Leo Madison and Catherine Patricia Gavigan; siblings, John L. Madison, Shannon E. Kane, David G. Madison, and Paul J. Madison; and her grandson, Michael R. Linton.
Surviving are her husband, Miguel Mariano Rodriguez Gort of Largo, FL; son David (Molly) M. Linton of Tully, NY; sister Erin M. Hoffmann of Los Angeles, CA; three grandchildren, Maggie E. Linton, Patrick J. Linton, and Finn M. Linton; one niece and several nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.
