Obituary

Marie F. Marceau Kelly, 83, of Baldwinsville, died at her home on Monday, May 21, 2007 surrounded by her children and dear friend, Sr. Frances Ann Thom, OSF. She was the daughter of Charles and Melinda Marceau, born in Rochester, NY. Her brother, Rev. William C. Marceau, CSB, a Basilian priest, and a French and Theology Professor at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, predeceased Marie in 2000.

Marie attended Our Lady of Mercy High School in Rochester, NY. She attended the University of Rochester while working in the Research Laboratories of Eastman Kodak Company. She married Laurence F. ("Tim") Kelly in 1946 and had eight children, two of whom predeceased them, Patrick L. in 1967 and Richard C. in 1970.

She was active in St. Mary's Mothers' Club in Baldwinsville as President as well as Chairman of various events through the years the children attended St. Mary's School. She was a choir member for nearly 50 years and was a Eucharistic Minister. She was Executive Director of Volunteer Center, Inc. of Baldwinsville from 1971 to 1981. She then worked from 1983 to present as an Outreach Worker, working especially with the isolated elderly in the Town of VanBuren. In this capacity, she was able to obtain spiritual assistance for her clients, regardless of denomination. It was especially gratifying to Marie to locate the homebound Catholics and refer them to a Pastoral Minister who then enabled them to partake of the Sacraments in their home. Her spiritual life was interwoven in her everyday activities.

In 1982, Marie was named Woman of the Year by the Greater Baldwinsville Chamber of Commerce.

Marie enjoyed a closer union with our dear Lord and His Mother and gained a deeper understanding and love of St. Francis and St. Clare in becoming an Associate of the Sisters of St. Francis in 1993 with the spiritual guidance of her companion Sister, Sr. Frances Ann Thom, OSF.

She served on the board of the Option with the Poor and the Awards Committee. She was Past President of Travelers' Club of Baldwinsville as well as a member of the Executive Board; Female Charitable Society; Pastoral Council of Syracuse Home and Auxiliary.
