Obituary

M. Lynn Mason Pohl, 95 years old, of Baldwinsville, NY died on March 9, 2025. The daughter of Mable A. (Raines) Mason and William Henry Mason, she was born on October 23, 1929, in Irvington, VA. After moving to Kensington, MD, she attended Bethesda Chevy-Chase High School. Lynn was a graduate of Towson University with a teaching degree and did post graduate work at Western Maryland College.

Lynn taught at Loch Raven Elementary School in Baltimore, MD and in Casper WY where she met her husband, the Reverend Roger Pohl. In 1956, Roger was called to build a new Presbyterian Church in Great Falls, MT. Their next call was to a Presbyterian Church in West Caldwell NJ, where they led the congregation in building a new sanctuary. Their two daughters were born during the 10 years they served in West Caldwell. In 1968, Lynn's husband was called to serve as the senior pastor serving the First Presbyterian Church in Baldwinsville NY.

They served in Baldwinsville for 24 years, retiring in 1992.

Lynn was involved in all phases of church life. She taught Sunday school, was a ruling elder, a deacon, a youth fellowship advisor, chairperson of a Bible study circle, and a member of the Presbyterian Women's Association. She was a life member of the Syracuse Home Auxiliary and a member of the Female Charitable Society of Baldwinsville. Lynn was married to her beloved husband and hero, Roger for 67 years until his passing in 2023. She is survived by her two daughters Kara Ammon (Ellyn) of Melrose, MA; Beth (Michael) Soeder of Baldwinsville, NY; and five grandchildren: Duke (Kenzie) Ammon, Jamie (Jack) Ammon, Kara Jean (Baker) Ammon, Emily (Clayton) Messmer and Mason (Rachel) Soeder. She is also survived by her loyal cat Pippa.

Lynn loved her family above all else. She enjoyed gardening, her daylily bed and bird watching. She loved entertaining, cooking, her cats and decorating for holidays. Lynn was a positive force of nature, a grateful soul, and a friend to all, especially the friendless. She could always see the"silver lining " and the glass half full. Lynn was kind, joyful and never left a job undone or half finished. She was a wonderful mom and the best Grandmomma ever. She was and is loved fiercely.

A memorial service celebrating Lynn's life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Baldwinsville, NY on Saturday March 15 at 10:00 am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heifer International at https://www.heifer.org or the endowment Fund of the First Presbyterian Church, 64 Oswego Street Baldwinsville NY 13027.
