Linda (Amato)
Grastorf
Jan 5, 1941 — Oct 30, 2026
Tuesday
St. Mary's Cemetery - DeWitt
12:00 - 12:15 pm (Eastern time)
Linda (Amato) Grastorf of Jamesville, New York, died peacefully at Francis House on Friday, October 30, 2026, she was 85.
Born in Syracuse, New York, she spent most of her life in Central New York. She was a graduate of the Convent School on Syracuse's North Side and earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Economics from LeMoyne College. She put her commitment to public service to work at the Social Security Administration on Long Island and, in the work that was most meaningful to her, at the New York State Employment Service in Syracuse.
She also served at the New York State Insurance Fund. In all, she served the people of New York State, and especially her hometown, for a total of 31 years. Linda's passion was gardening. She prided herself on her beautiful gardens. One of her favorite things to do was to go with her sister, Marianne, to visit the Farmer's Market, where she enjoyed chatting with vendors and selected many beautiful plants over the years.
She loved to travel. When her children were younger, she took them to Bermuda, Europe, Montreal and New York City. She also took them on an epic trip across the country by train, with dear friends, stopping to visit many notable sites along the way.
Later in life, she traveled to see her son perform in shows across the country, joined by her family and life partner, Daniel Bourdon, Sr. She especially enjoyed her multiple trips to Italy, but also loved drives through Central New York's beautiful autumn landscapes with Dan.
She enjoyed close, lifelong friendships, especially with a group of women she met while attending LeMoyne. They referred to themselves as "The Club" and met monthly for lunches, dinners and many special events for more than 50 years.
She was a generous hostess and thoughtful gift-giver, relishing Christmas shopping trips with her daughter and her nieces, and providing plates of holiday cookies and charming cross-stitch ornaments to many friends over the years. But nothing compared to the joy and pride she took in her grandsons, and in being present for the milestones in their young lives, including school and sporting events, Scouting events, and musical performances.
Linda is predeceased by her parents, Nicholas and Anne Amato, her sister, Marianne Aman, and her life partner, Daniel Bourdon, Sr.
She is survived by her two children, Anne Marie McVicker (Thomas) of Jamesville and Kevin Grastorf of Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming; her grandchildren, Christian and Braden McVicker; as well as her beloved nieces and nephews, Laurey, Lisa, David, Julie and Sue, and their families; also Dan's sons, Daniel, Scott, and Steven, and their families.
A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2026 at 10 a.m. in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemtery, DeWtt.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to, Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208 or Hospice of Central New York and of the Finger Lakes, 990 7th N. St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
