Leo R. McCarthy, Jr., 86, of Baldwinsville, NY, passed away with his loving family by his side after a brief illness. Leo was a native of Lakeland and graduated from Solvay High School in 1953. During school, Leo was involved in 4-H where he raised sheep and Shetland ponies. He was a member of the Limestone Hunt Club and enjoyed participating in hunt events. Leo joined the US Army as a reservist and served from 1958-1964. While in the reserves, Leo met his wife, Lorraine Maholick, and they spent 62 years together raising their children: David Maholick (Terrie Robinson) of Driftwood, TX, Leslie Arcuri (Anthony Arcuri) of Charlottesville, VA and Leon McCarthy (Doreen Pier) of Baldwinsville, NY. Leo and Lorraine resided in Baldwinsville for the past 35 years and previously lived in Lakeland and Cato. Leo was an avid Syracuse University sports enthusiast and made many family memories motorhome camping and attending horse shows. Leo leaves 5 loving grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Vanessa McCarthy. Calling hours are 1-4 pm Wednesday, June 16 at Falardeau Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 4:30 PM at St Mary's Church, Syracuse St, Baldwinsville with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.
