Obituary

Kurt Lyle Bohanan of Baldwinsville, NY, passed away on January 30, 2023 at 92 years of age.

Kurt was born in Syracuse, NY, on May 13, 1930. He lived in East Syracuse and graduated from East Syracuse High School in 1948. In 1951 Kurt joined the Army and was stationed at Camp Picket, VA. He served with the 43rd infantry division, 103rd field artillery battalion in Germany during the Korean War. Kurt received an honorable discharge in 1953. Following his service Kurt was employed at Western Electric until 1961 when he became a New York State Trooper. Kurt served 23 years with the Troopers retiring in 1985. He finished his career in 1993 with WCNY TV.

Kurt married Jeanne Asper in 1954. Jeanne was his high school sweetheart. They had their first date when they were 9. "We saw a movie, had popcorn and had a sundae after, all for fifty cents! What a deal that was." Kurt and Jeanne were together over 67 years. Kurt was very proud of his sons, Todd and Corey. Kurt and Jeanne spent many years following the Liverpool High School Marching Band and Sports Teams.

Kurt enjoyed bowling, cards, softball, horseshoes, fishing, and long walks. He was a boy scout and a sea scout. One of his most memorable adventures was a 95 mile canoe trip he took down the Ottawa River in Canada. He enjoyed traveling as long as he didn't have to fly! And when asked how he was his favorite reply was, "Fair to Midlin" (from the old days). Kurt attended First United Methodist Church in Liverpool, NY and was a lifetime member of the Liverpool Elks Lodge 2348, VFW Post 7325 in Constantia, NY, American Legion Post 0188 in Liverpool, NY, the NYSP PBA, the Central NY Chapter of Retired Troopers and Retired Public Employees Association.

Kurt was pre-deceased by his first born son Keith (5 years old), his parents Arlene and Stanley Bohanan, his in-laws Marvin and Hilda Asper, his brother Karl Bohanan, his brother in-law Clifford Asper, his wife Susan and their sons Leonard and Joseph, and his first wife Ann Pomeroy Bohanan.
