Kathleen "Kathy" Melnick, 76, of Syracuse, passed away on Wednesday at Loretto. Born in Syracuse, her most admirable qualities was the love for her son Jack and her cheeky authenticity. She spoke her mind with a candidness that was both refreshing and endearing.

Kathy lived life according to her own principles and values, never conforming to expectations and displayed courage in living life unapologetically. Kathy was a talented cook who enjoyed exploration of new dishes and was always sharing recipes.

She was a dedicated shopper and always on the hunt for the latest gadgets. Kathy cherished hummingbirds for their strength and beauty but their spiritual significance of suffering through hope encapsulated her journey after the loss of her son and living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). May she now rest in everlasting peace.

Kathy was predeceased by her son, Gary "Jack" Pickard; sister, Susan Baum and brother, Raymond Teska.

She is survived by her brothers, Robert (Joyce) and Lawrence Teska; several nieces and nephews; and her adopted daughter-in-law, Pattie Samson.

There will be no calling hours. Services will be private.
