Katherine Mary Latour Whisher passed away at the age of 69, surrounded by her loving family in her Manlius home, on October 29, 2017, after bravely battling cancer. Kathy was born in Saranac Lake, New York on August 21, 1948, to Leona (Abare) and James A. Latour (deceased). She was a 1966 graduate of St. Pius X High School in Saranac Lake. Upon her 1970 graduation from SUNY Potsdam, she began her career as an elementary teacher in her hometown. This was more than a career for Kathy, it was a life-long passion. She spent her entire career as a cherished teacher and colleague at Petrova Elementary. Mrs. Whisher steadfastly believed in giving all students an opportunity to learn and shared her love of children's literature with her students.

Surviving Kathy is her beloved daughter, Jessica Whisher-Hehl, son-in-law, Erik Hehl and her precious grandchildren, Jake and Nellie of Manlius, her loving mother, Leona (Abare) Latour, as well as her devoted siblings, Donna McGinnis of Saranac Lake, Ruth Keach (John) of Cicero, James A. Latour III of Florida, David Latour (Lisa) of Brewerton. Kathy also shared her love with her seven surviving nieces and nephews.

Kathy had an unwaveringly devotion to her family and friends. She consistently put the needs of others before hers and brightened the lives of all those who had the pleasure of meeting her. Living a life of kindness was a cornerstone of Kathy's existence. She showed all who knew her that kindness was always possible, even in the most trying situations. Kathy's love, kindness and devotion to those she loved, and all those that loved her, will be cherished forever and greatly missed.

Calling hours are 2-4 pm Thursday, November 2, at St. Ann's Church, 104 Academy Street, Manlius, followed by a Memorial Mass.
