Joseph R. Gallagher, 75, of Van Buren died Sunday. Born in Syracuse, he lived in the Syracuse area for most of his life. He was a graduate of St. Vincent de Paul School. He retired in 1986 after 20 years as an electrician for the Syracuse Department of Transportation. He was previously secretary-treasurer of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 43. He attended St. Augustine's Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion in Dexter and Elks Lodge 31, Syracuse. His first wife, Rhoda N., died in 1996.
Survivors: His wife of three years, the former Doris O'Hern May; two daughters, Ruth A. Bryan of Van Buren and Colleen J. Breen of Sevierville, Tenn.; three sons, James F. of Concord, N.C., Raymond J. of Oswego and Daniel V. of Cicero; two stepdaughters, Patricia Darmofal and Janice Murray, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; two stepsons, Donald R. May of Syracuse and John P. May of Summerville, S.C.; a sister, Rita Hughes of Syracuse; 23 grandchildren.
Services: 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at Falardeau Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in St. Augustine's Church. Burial, St. Mary's Cemetery, Baldwinsville. Calling hours, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville.
