IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph F.
Demaso
June 5, 1944 – February 23, 2009
Joseph F. DeMaso, 64, of Baldwinsville died at St. Josephs Hospital February 23, 2009. He earned advanced degrees at SUNY- Cortland but never mentioned them as he had far more respect for strong character and integrity. He taught Social Studies at Cortland Jr-Sr High School and was later Project Manager for OCM BOCES. In retirement he found entertainment as an Associate for Dick's Sporting Goods.
He is predeceased by a son, Kevin. Survivors: wife, Roberta Sampson DeMaso; daughter, Kristen Lockhart of Endwell, of whom he was most proud; brothers Frank DeMaso and Fred DeMaso of Yonkers; Mary Ellen Devlin of Yonkers; beloved grandchildren Kaitlyn and Ian Lockhart of Endwell; and family friend, Andreu Nutter of Cicero.
He was equally versed in the writings and wisdoms of Carl Sagan, "Sesame Street," Elie Wiesel, the Bible, and "Survivorman" episodes. His handshake felt like an invitation to sit down to pizza with family. Fond of all types of music, he is best known for the beloved but little known composition titled "The Grandpa Song," created in partnership with his grandchildren. An environmentalist who disliked the label, he never went to a park without a trash bag. He was especially gifted in his ability to find hope, an opportunity to laugh, and a reason to be thankful.
