John Weingarden, 91, of Brewerton, NY, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, at Crouse Hospital after a brief illness.
For 68 years, John shared a devoted marriage with his beloved wife, Sylvia- a partnership built on faith, loyalty and deep commitment. Together they raised five daughters and built a family that became his proudest legacy.
John had a lifelong passion for genealogy. With patience and precision, he documented his family's history so that future generations would know where they came from and the stories that shaped them. He believed deeply in the importance of remembering.
He served his country honorably in the United States Airforce for over 26 years, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant. In his final assignment, Senior Master Sergeant John V. Weingarden distinguished himself by meritorious service as Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the Combat Training Branch of the Region Control Center, 21st Air Defense Squadron, Hancock Field, Syracuse, NY. His work in Air Traffic Control reflected his discipline, leadership, and unwavering dedication. He was awarded the Airforce Commendation Medal and Meritorious Service Medal in recognition of his distinguished service.
Beyond the military, John pursued his Bachelor's degree from Columbia College and a degree in Applied Sciences Radio and Television. During his career he volunteered and worked part time in TV broadcasting in Cold Bay, Alaska, and Radio Broadcasting as a staff announcer at WMCR in Oneida, NY from 1970 to 1981 and later served as a newsman and staff announcer at WNDR/AM, WNTQ/FM Syracuse, NY.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia; his daughters, Laurie A. (John "Jack") Housel of Baldwinsville, NY Karen M. (Bruce) Broat of Utica, NY, Paula (Don Alden) Rose of Concord, MA, Lynn F. (Brian) Marston of Lyman, ME, and Lisa M. (Craig) Dousharm of Fond du Lac, WI; his sister, Noreen Wood of Albany, NY; six grandchildren - Jennifer, Venessa, Brian B., Katelyn, Brian H., and Kelly; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Weingarden, and his sisters, Shirley Eggleston and Elizabeth "Betty Ann" Della Rocco.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville, NY. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Our Lady Of Peace Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to Special Operations Warrior Foundation, or Honor Flight of Syracuse, NY, reflecting his lifelong devotion to faith, family, and country.
John's legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the history he preserved and the country he faithfully served.
