Slattery
January 22, 1916 – February 9, 2008
John J. Slattery, 92, died Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the Stonehedge Nursing Home in Chittenango. He was born and raised in the Tipperary Hill neighborhood of Syracuse, then moved to Baldwinsville, after marrying Martha Sullivan. Mr. Slattery was a graduate of St. Patrick's Grammar School and North High School in Syracuse. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for many years as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, delivering mail in the downtown and west-side neighborhoods of Syracuse. He was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church in Baldwinsville. Mr. Slattery was predeceased by his wife Martha.
Survivors include a nephew, Richard L. Sullivan and his wife Louise of Cape Elizabeth, Maine; three nieces, Norah Hooper and her husband Tony of Goldvein, Virginia; Kathleen Connolly and her husband Jack of Hanover, Massachusetts; and Mary Pat Pollock and her husband Bart of Chittenango; also, five great nieces, 10 great nephews, three great-great nieces and two great-great nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9:00a.m. Thursday, February 14, 2008 at St. Mary's Church, 47 Syracuse St., Baldwinsville. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Baldwinsville. Calling hours will be from 8:00am to 8:30 a.m. at the Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville prior to the service.
