Obituary

John "Jack" L. Purcell Jr., 83, passed in peace on Sunday April 18, 2021 of health complications not related to COVID. Born in Waterloo, NY to John L. Purcell Sr. and Norma Kelly Purcell, Jack is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sondra L. Purcell, two daughters, Karen Purcell Hoffman of OH and Cheryl Purcell Yungkurth of FL, three sons, Timothy (Eileen) Purcell of PA, Brian Purcell of NY and Eric (Amiee) Purcell of CO, ten grandchildren, Sarah Tirado, Derek Yungkurth, Michael Purcell, Kristin Purcell, Lauren Purcell, Tanner Purcell, Andrew Purcell, Laura Purcell Richards, Patrick Purcell and Riley Purcell and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was a graduate of Onondaga Valley Academy. Jack served his country in the Air National Guard with the 108th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron. During his time with the 108th, he served in Germany in response to the Berlin Wall Crisis. Jack worked 39 years for the New York Telephone Company.
Formally a long-time resident of Camillus, NY and a member of St. Joseph's Church he was most recently a resident of Baldwinsville, NY and member of St. Mary's of the Assumption Church.
Jack enjoyed sports, especially hockey, playing for the Syracuse Stars, coached competitive youth hockey teams and later officiated. He always enjoyed playing golf, often playing several rounds a day while walking the course with his friends.
No flowers or gifts, please keep the family in your thoughts.
Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's of the Assumption Church, Baldwinsville, NY followed by a private grave-side service at St. Mary's Cemetery Dewitt, NY.
