Obituary

John P. Coleman, 77, of Baldwinsville, New York, Air Force Veteran, died peacefully at home on February 9th, 2024. Born in Crystal, Minnesota, to the late John W. Coleman and Patricia (Olsen) Coleman, came to Syracuse after graduating high school and joining the Air Force. He attended Syracuse University to participate in a Russian Language program for the Air Force. He was stationed in Berlin where he monitored radio frequencies. At one time, he could speak 7 different languages!

After the Air Force, he returned to Syracuse to complete degrees in business and finance. While attending school, John worked at the county morgue as an ambulance driver. Once he graduated from SU, he began working for Carrier Corporation, climbing the corporate ladder to become the Director of Finance. He also worked in subsidiaries of Carrier in Washington DC and Miami, Florida. John traveled often for business and pleasure, citing Ireland as his favorite place to visit. He looked forward to monthly lunches and dinners with his groups from Carrier right up until October. (He affectionately referred to them as his "Geezer luncheons/dinners).

When John retired from the business world, he went on to teach at Mohawk Valley Community College. He enjoyed his time teaching but eventually desired to retire full time. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his lake house during the summer. He looked forward to his sunset cruises (while listening to Willie Nelson and the Beach Boys) with his beloved dog, Benny. During the winter months he spent time with his grandson, John M. in Kansas. They cruised the fields, looking for good hunting spots and dining on the fabulous meals Jevon cooked (John's wife).

He is survived by his son, John D. Coleman (Jill), daughter Randy Liberty (Jim), as well as grandchildren John M. Coleman, Jessica Hicks, Lauren, Rose, Mary Coleman, Cole Liberty, great-grandson Jacob Hicks, and sister Diane Woral, of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Besides his parents, he is also predeceased by his brother, Russell Coleman.
A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at Canalside Bistro and Cafe located at 23 Syracuse St. Baldwinsville, NY on February 25, 2024 from 3 to 6 pm.
