John R. Ainslie, AKA Jack, born July 9, 1926 in Malden, MA died Monday, February 21, 2005 in Syracuse. Jack served in the Navy in WW II on two minsweepers, the USS IBIS and the USS Barrier. With his love of the sea, he continued to sail in the Merchant Marines after the war, traveling all over the world. Jack later built and worked his own business, Winchester Salvage Co. in the early 1960's through his retirement in 1992. Jack and his wife, Carolyn spent the first twelve years of retirement living in the Great North Woods of NH in the small town of Pittsburg. A lover of the outdoors,he and his wife pursued their many hobbies of hunting, fishing, cross coutry skiing and snowshoeing. Jack took pride in a new hobby born of necessity, falling trees, hand splitting, stacking wood for use in the woodstove. Jack had a love of life and his was lived to the fullest. In May of 2004, Jack and Carolyn moved to Syracuse, NY to be near family.

He leaves his loving wife of 45 years, Carolyn D. Ainslie, a cherished niece, Robin Kassel and her husband, Rick Kassel of Manlius, NY; devoted sister-in-law, Norma and brother-in-law, Earl Styers of Baldwinsville, NY; a sister, Malvina Toomy of Londonderry, NH; three aunts, on the Kanawake Reserve, Quebec, Canada; and beloved pet, Topaz.

In the spring, Jack will be interred in Pittsburg, NH. Arrangements by Falardeau Funeral Home, Baldwinsville.
