Obituary

Jean Anne (Cambareri) Smith passed away on July 23rd, surrounded by family and the caring staff of Loretto. She was predeceased by her husband, John C. Smith, who died on November 19th 2002.

Jean leaves behind her children, Susan (William) Crossett, Nancy Zarnowski, and Paul (Sue) Smith, as well as her grandchildren, Lauren (Morley Flynn) Crossett and Devin Crossett, and her beloved great-granddaughter, Louise Flynn; her sister, Marylou Ritz, and her brother, Carmen Cambareri, along with several nieces and nephews.

Jean grew up in Albany and moved to Syracuse to attend LeMoyne College. While living with her Aunt and cousins in Eastwood, she met John and made Syracuse and Baldwinsville her home. Jean was an executive secretary at P & C Foods in the Big M advertising department until her retirement.

Jean cherished her family and loved anytime they gathered for a party; she was usually first on the dance floor. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Florida with her daughter Nancy. In fact, on one trip to Italy with family, they were able to attend Pope Benedict XVI's first Mass in St. Peter's Square.

Jean especially embraced children, family, and friends alike, all calling her "Gramma" Jean. She loved any time she could spend on the water, boating on the St. Lawrence River with Paul and Sue or at Fair Haven with her grandchildren (and their parents).

The family would like to thank the team at Loretto for their wonderful care.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 47 Syracuse St., Baldwinsville. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
