Obituary

Jane Sutliff Vaughan, 89, of Hamilton, formerly of Bellport and Morrisville, very quietly went to her permanent home in Heaven on March 20, 2010. The oldest of three daughters, born to Edward and Sylvia Sutliff of Troy, NY on March 15, 1921, Jane graduated from Johnstown High in 1939. She received her BA from Russel Sage College in 1942 and her masters from Columbia and Hofstra Universities. She taught in Pine Plains for one year before moving to Bellport, NY where she taught Home Ec. Then EL. Ed. For 17 years. During the war years, she oversaw operations in the cafeteria as well as teaching French and Latin. Jane stayed home when her children were small. An accomplished cook and seamstress, she judged sewing at the Madison County Fair. After retiring to Morrisville, she volunteered with the SNACK program, story hour at the library and volunteered in the elementary school. Jane loved spending time with her grandchildren and gave generously of herself to her family, friends and students. She was pre-deceased by her husband James in 2004, her sisters Helen Gonick in 2005 and Marjorie Mackenzie in 2010.

She is survived by her three children, Jeanette (John) Fedkiw of Baldwinsville, James (Susan Kahl) of Bellport and Jeffrey (Gene) of Florida; four grandchildren, Jonathan (Jessi), Jane, James and Joel; three great grandchildren, Kara, Ethan and Peter.

Services at the convenience of the family. No calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in her name may go to the Resident Fund at Community Memorial Hospital, ESC where Jane received quality, loving care for 8 years, 150 Broad Street, Hamilton, NY 13346.
