James Robert Tompkins, of Baldwinsville passed away April 2, 2015 at St. Joseph's Hospital in his wife's loving arms. Jim was born on April 30, 1949 in Syracuse the son of the late C. Robert and Marjorie Howard Tompkins. He graduated from Syracuse University with a BA in Physics and a minor in Mathematics.
Jim was an avid SU fan and season ticket holder, and loved all types of motor racing. He was a history buff and would plan vacation to incorporate Civil War battlefields and other historic sites. Jim loved to travel Italy, England, Scotland, and France. He also traveled extensively throughout the USA. Jim had a lifelong passion for photography. He served in the U.S. Army reserves, but never felt he was entitled to any military honors because he never saw combat. Jim was a car fanatic loved anything made by Chevrolet, Ferrari and BMW. Jim was an Asst. Vice President at First Niagara Risk Management in Syracuse. He was a member of several risk management associations and a member of Who's Who in American Business.
Survived by his beloved wife of 26 years Suzanne De Salvatore Tompkins; son, Andrew James Tompkins MD ((Kate Berry Tompkins, PhD.) of Providence, RI; sister, Sharee (Joseph) Pierce of Baldwinsville; grandson, Jacob Simon Tompkins of Providence; niece, Katie Lemos (Tyler) Brown of Syracuse; nephews: Robert (Gregory Catherine) Lemos of Arlington, VA, brother-in-law Nicholas (Colleen) De Salvatore of Syracuse, nephews Dominic (Annie Eichenlaub) De Salvatore, and Vincent (Brittany Dunn) De Salvatore grandniece Eliana Lemos, and grandnephew, Joshua Lemos, along with many cousins and dear, close friends. He will be dearly missed by his pets Enzo Furrari and Thor.
Calling hours will be held at Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer Street, Baldwinsville on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.. A memorial celebration of Jim's life will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Eastwood Baptist Church, 3212 James Street, Syracuse. The family invites attendees to refreshments to be served in the church hall after the service. Memorial Contributions may be made to American Lung Assoc. or any animal charity of choice.
