Obituary

Hunter James Hennessey, born on March 21, 2004, in Syracuse, NY, left us too soon on October 9, 2026. Hunter was a bright and adventurous spirit. He is survived by his loving mother, Melissa Hennessey, twin brother Dakota Hennessey, grandparents James and Moe Hennessey, and uncle Mike Hennessey [aka Teammate]. He was preceded in death by great grandparents: Patricia Kotas [aka GG], Frank Kotas, Jane Hennessey, and Leland Hennessey.

Hunter lived life to the fullest, embracing his passions with an enthusiasm that was infectious. He found joy being on the water and in the woods, where his love for fishing and hunting began. His love for the great outdoors extended to hiking, often leading him on adventures. Hunter and Dakota traveled together whether it was planned or spontaneous. Whether he was chasing cutthroat trout in Idaho, exploring the stunning mountains of Wyoming on side by sides, or taking selfies with the buffalo at Yellowstone National Park, Hunter thrived in the moments where he could make memories with his family and friends.

Music was another passion of Hunter's life; he reveled in live music, soaking up the energy of concerts with family and friends. He took pride in caring for the family chickens and his plants, showcasing his nurturing spirit even in the smallest of things. If you were randomly talking about history chances are he joined in on your conversation. He was an avid reader from the start; even to the point that his teachers, including English teachers, would call home about him reading too much. From playing sports as kids to earning military awards together as young men, Justin Barkley entered the picture and became a part of the family--and was another brother to them both. But above all, family held the highest place in Hunter's heart.

Memorable moments spent with loved ones will forever live on in our hearts. Hunter and Dakota were gifted a family trip for their high school graduation, where they made unforgettable memories. They celebrated their 21st birthday with their mother on a cruise in the Bahamas, an unforgettable memory filled with laughter and love.

As a dedicated member of the community, Hunter also served as a volunteer firefighter in Baldwinsville, where he demonstrated his commitment to helping others. He lived with a generous spirit, always taking time to pay it forward, most notably at The Cottage in Baldwinsville where Hunter, Dakota, and his mother would choose another table and pay for their full meal anonymously, with a generous tip.

Hunter entered the New York Army National Guard on October 27, 2021, where he served with the 142 Aviation Battalion, Delta Co, 15 Tango UH-60 Helicopter Repairer. During his time with the National Guard he earned various medals which include:

  • -Army Service Ribbon
  • -Armed Forces Reserved Metal with MD Devices
  • -Armed Forces Service Metal
  • -National Defense Service Metal
  • -Army Achievement Metal x 2

Hunter was mobilized for Operation Southwest Border Deployment October 2023 through September 2024, and continued to serve proudly.

Calling hours will be open for the public at Falardeau Funeral Home on October 20, 2026, from 3:00 - 7:00 PM. His journey will continue through the memories we all cherish, and he will be remembered for his love of nature and family, his adventurous spirit, and his unwavering kindness.

Hunter will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. You can honor him by doing an act of kindness: buying someone a meal, honoring a veteran, or sharing a smile with a random stranger.
