IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Helen Anne
Scanlon
May 22, 1928 – February 10, 2024
Helen Anne Scanlon (McAllister), 95, of Kempton, PA, long-time resident of Baldwinsville, NY, went to rest in the loving arms of our Lord on February 10, 2024. Born on May 22,1928 in Corona, NY to Lawrence F. McAllister and Nellie (Carragher) of Crossmaglen, Armagh, Ireland. This proud daughter of Eire married the love of her life, William Patrick Scanlon, Jr. on June 16, 1951. They were long time residents of Long Island, NY, Paramus, NJ, Baldwinsville, NY and N. Ft. Myers, FL. Helen was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Mary's Parish in Baldwinsville, NY for more than 25 years and an active member of the Altar and Rosary Society.
Much of Helen and Bill's social life revolved around the Fr. Washington Post of the Catholic War Veterans in Paramus, NJ where Helen was involved in the CWV Auxiliary and was pre-deceased by so many friends. Before becoming a wife and mother, Helen worked for many years at McCall's Magazine in New York City. Helen worked for Spector (now Crest) Cadillac in Syracuse for nearly 10 years, where she befriended many colleagues and customers.
In addition to her mother and father, and parents-in-law William P. and Helen A. Scanlon (Jenkins), Helen was pre-deceased by her loving husband William, who died November 18, 1989; brothers, Lawrence (Charlotte), Felix (Anne,) Bernard (Ann), Edward (Audry), Thomas (Theresa), John (Kay); and her sister, Theresa Meehan (Frank); brother-in-law, James Scanlon (Barbara); sister-in Law, Helen Cooper (Albert) and Elizabeth Hollingsworth (Thomas); niece, Ellen McDonald (Meehan) and nephews, Terence McAllister and Lawrence McAllister, all of whom she adored.
She is survived by four loving sons, Walter (Donna) of Kempton, PA, William III (Phyllis) of Phoenix, NY, Michael (Lynne) of Aurora, OH and Timothy (Karen) of Brewerton, NY. Known as Granny to ten grandchildren, Kevin (Stacey), Sean, (Alison), Allison Wall (Michael), Molly Dapolito (Jake), William IV, Michael (Katherine), Meghan Blouir (Christopher), Maureen Blanford (Greg), Timothy, Patrick and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was known as Aunt Helen to twenty-eight nieces and nephews, many of whom have written to express that she was their favorite Aunt. All of those in her care were guided by a strong hand and unwavering principles. Helen stressed the importance of Faith in our Lord, Catholic education, hard work, love of Country and following the rules, despite being expelled from Dominican High School for Girls for skipping school one day in her senior year to see Frank Sinatra in concert. Helen lived a life of prayer and charitable works and left her mark on this earth. She outlived nearly all of her contemporaries and will be missed by all left behind.
