April 8, 1931 – November 30, 2006
George F. Wilber Sr., 75, passed away while napping in his favorite chair Thursday November 30, 2006 in his winter home in Silver Springs Fl. He was born in Baldwinsville NY on April 8, 1931 and lived his entire life in the Baldwinsville area. He retired from General Electric Corp. in 1992 after 38 years of service. He held many positions but his favorite was fulfilling his childhood ambition of being a professional fireman. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the US Navy aboard the USS Arcadia. He was actively involved in veterans' affairs in both the VFW (Post 153) and the American Legion (Post 113) where he served as the Chaplain in both organizations. George will be remembered as a man who consoled and talked to everyone who crossed his path.
George was a kind husband and loving father to six children. He was married to Irene Miller in Lysander, NY Aug. 8 1954 and was later sealed for Eternity in the Logan Temple in 1959.
George, an avid contributor to the local community, served as the Onondaga County Chaplain. He was a member of the Priesthood in the LDS Church, where he served in various capacities of Ward leadership and served on a mission at the Toronto Temple. For over 30 years, he contributed many hours of service to the Meridian Volunteer Fire Department as the Assistant Fire Chief and Chaplain.
Survivors: his wife of 52 years, Irene Wilber; four sons, George Jr. of Seattle, WA, Michael of Vergennes, VT, Steven of American Fork, UT, David of Sandy, UT; two daughters, Kathryn of Cato, NY and Susan of Chandler, IN; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services: Viewing at 7:00pm – 9:00pm Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at Falardeau Funeral Home in Baldwinsville at 93 Downer St. Funeral at 1:00 pm Wednesday, December 6, 2006 in LDS Chapel in Fulton at 837 State Rte 48, Fulton, NY.
