George L. Gates passed away peacefully at home on January 7, 2019. He was born in Syracuse on January 30, 1930, the son of Lucius and Lena (Gallinger) Gates. George was a member of St. Mary's of Assumption Parish in Baldwinsville for over 60 years. He enjoyed reading and woodworking.

George is survived by his wife of 63 years, Irene, and their eight children and their families, Joanne (John) Pietras of Liverpool, Timothy of Syracuse, Linda (Thomas) Helser of Lowville, Leonard (Susan) of Munnsville, Kenneth (Kathy) of East Syracuse, Stephen of Baldwinsville, Keven of Syracuse, Cathy (Ron Bryant) Simonds of Baldwinsville, and son-in-law David Simonds of Baldwinsville. He was a wonderful grandfather to his 7 grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Thursday, January 10 at St. Mary's of Assumption Church in Baldwinsville. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Baldwinsville. Friends are invited to call from 4-6 pm Wednesday, January 9 at Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St, Baldwinsville.
