Obituary

George P. Davis, 94, of Liverpool passed away Wednesday at Francis House. He was born in Ithaca, NY and graduated from Syracuse Central High School in 1932 and attended Columbia University. He was employed by Continental Can Company with assignments in New York State, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Texas, retiring after 41 years of service in 1975. He enlisted in military service in Syracuse, NY in Nov. 1942 and was assigned to the 14th Armored "Liberator" Division – Company A 48th Tank Battalion. He served in WWII with action in France, Germany and central Europe. He received several decorations including two purple hearts for wounds and a Bronze Star medal for heroic achievements near Grafendorf, Germany. He left Marseille, France on 12/24/45 to return to the US where his unit was deactivated on 1/10/46. He was a member of the Liverpool First United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 951,American Legion Post 6201, Disabled Veterans Assoc., 14th Armored Division Assoc., Hiram T. Dewey #226 F&AM, Excelsior Consistory and Yaarab Shrine Temple. His wife predeceased him in 1996.

He is survived by two daughters, Janette (Allen) Nesbitt of Mt. Vernon, Indiana and Diane (John) Richards of Cicero, NY; two sisters, Leona Howard of Syracuse and Allis Weaver of Dundee, NY; 4 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Private burial, with military honors, will be in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00am Saturday, December 13th at Liverpool First United Methodist Church 604 Oswego St., Liverpool, NY.
