Obituary

Frank Rathbun, 70, of Plainville, passed away at home on Monday June 15th, 2026.

Born in Syracuse, he was a 1973 graduate of Phoenix High School.

Starting out, he worked in maintenance at Syroco- where he met his future wife, Diane. Before long they were married with kids. For more stability, he started working for Anheuser-Busch.

Frank loved his family, unconditionally. And, he was a stable provider for his family. He worked every scheduled shift, just about every holiday and some weekends too. He was the embodiment of the old adage "work hard to play hard". After 27 long years of working for Anheuser-Busch, Frank was able to retire comfortably- and early- at the age of 55. Once widowed, he was a dedicated father to his daughters, and was a very involved and loving grandfather as well.

When he wasn't working, Frank was always on the move. He loved staying active and was a huge sports fan. You could find him out on the ice playing hockey, hitting the golf course, bowling a 298, or jumping into a casual game of softball, basketball, or even tennis. He also loved to travel with his family. He and his wife took regular trips to Cancun, Mexico. You could also find him going on annual fishing and boating trips to Melody Lodge in Canada along with extended family.

Frank was an electrician by trade- but he was also a very skilled handy man and often took on a variety of projects and improvements around the house, yard, and pool. Boy, did he love the NYS fair for people-watching. He loved a variety of music and was quite the dancer, too. His quick wit, sarcasm and zest for life attracted many, many friends. He always was, and always will be- the life of the party.

Later on in life, he really enjoyed taking road trips with Sue. They loved to enjoy their "back road adventures" together, as well as hanging out with friends at all of his favorite local spots.... especially JP's and the OIB.

His health declined in later years, but you wouldn't really know it from his joie de vivre.

He continued living his life, his way, right down to his last day.

He was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd and Mildred Rathbun; his wife, Diane; and his brother, Lloyd "Bud" Rathbun Jr., along with two of his sisters, Ruth Bell and Lorraine Woodworth.

Surviving are his daughters, Jamie Rathbun of Palm Coast, FL and Nicole Virginia of Baldwinsville. Two grandchildren, Andre Rathbun-Watts and Ava Virginia. His sister, Lee Ashby, and his girlfriend of many years, Suzanne Polmanteer.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 30, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville, NY 13027
