Obituary

Edward Ramin passed away peacefully, at the age of 96, on October 7, 2023 at Syracuse Home in Baldwinsville, NY. Ed was born in Williamsport, PA on August 26, 1927 to Charles and Frances Ramin. He was the youngest of 4 children. He grew up surrounded by his extended family including many uncles, aunts and cousins. This inspired his love of family.

Ed attended grammar school at J. George Becht school in Loyalsock township, Curtain Junior High School and Williamsport High School graduating in 1945. He went on to join the Navy spending time serving at Great Lakes Naval Base in Illinois. He returned to Pennsylvania and attended one year at Penn State. He transferred to Lycoming College back in his hometown of Williamsport. He graduated in 1952 with a business degree. He worked in several positions, one being with the Little League World Series organization where he met his wife, Joan M. Beck.

They married in 1956. Ed left Little League and began working with Sealtest Ice Cream. He was an account manager delivering ice cream throughout north central Pennsylvania and New York. He worked with Sealtest for several years moving from Williamsport to Elmira, NY and then finally onto Baldwinsville. Ed recognized that his position often led him away from his family so he made a career change. He went back to school, attending Oswego State College, earning his teaching certificate in elementary education.

He began teaching with the Phoenix school district, but then moved onto working with Jordan-Elbridge school district for 27 years. He retired in 1990. Ed had a beautiful bass voice, and was an avid singer with various barbershop groups as well as St. Mary's choir and Syracuse Choral. He was very passionate about his music. He was an incredible golfer and spent a significant amount of time on the course and when he wasn't able to physically golf, he loved watching it on TV. He also loved his chocolate, especially Hersheys! However, Ed was most proud of being a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Ed and his wife, Joan, raised 5 sons.

Ed was a strong supporter of his wife and assisted in her many projects throughout their years together. He worked hard and led by example for his boys by treating everyone equally and with respect. He gave everyone a chance to be honest and good. If you knew Ed, you might say he was the most honest person you ever met, and that gift was given to his family forever.

Ed is predeceased by his wife Joan, his parents Charles & Frances, his siblings Charles, Harriet & Robert and his best friend and cousin Bill Rall. He is survived by his 5 sons: Peter (Betty), Greg, Dave (Joann), John (Diane) & Dan (Lori) as well as 6 grandchildren: Jon (Allison), Hobie, Ben, Meredith, Jack & Gregory. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

There will be no calling hours. Services will be private.
