Dishaw
January 29, 1924 – July 17, 2014
Edith Elisabeth Dishaw, 90, died on Thursday July 17,2014 at Loretto Health and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She had lived in Oceanside, NY before moving to Baldwinsville in 2003. Edith was born on January 29, 1924 in Ludwigshafen, Germany to Herbert and Elisabeth (Braun) Goetz. She married James E. Dishaw in Heidelberg, Germany and moved to the United States in 1948. Edith retired from the Oceanside School District where she worked for many years as a librarian. Prior to that, she was employed by Time Magazine in New York City. She also served as a translator for the US Army after World War II. Edith was a gifted writer and storyteller who also enjoyed folk dancing, painting and other artistic pursuits. She traveled extensively both before and after retirement.
Edith was predeceased by her husband, James E. Dishaw, who died in 1988.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James and Beth Dishaw of Meridian, NY and by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Frederick Weber of Melville, NY. She is also survived by grandchildren, Elizabeth Dishaw Brazee and her husband, Chrisopher Brazee, of Rochester, NY, Laura V. Dishaw of Durham, NC, Katherine E. Weber and her husband, Jason Margiotta, of Brewster, NY and Paul James Weber of Melville, NY.
Calling hours will be 1:00pm – 3:00pm Sunday, July 20th, 2014 at the Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville with services to follow at 3:00pm. Interment will be at the Weedsport Rural Cemetery on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Loretto Foundation, 1301 Nottingham Rd., Jamesville, NY 13078.. The family wishes to thank all the staff at Loretto for the excellent care they have given to Edith over the years.
