Dorothy Smith Porter, 96, of Perry Road, Van Buren, died Thursday at Van Duyn Home & Hospital. She was a life resident of the town of Van Buren. She graduated from Baldwinsville Academy and Cornell University, and received a master's degree from Syracuse University. She retired in 1971 as a 10th-grade English teacher after 13 years in the Baldwinsville school district. She was a columnist for several publications, including the Baldwinsville Messenger. She was a member of Baldwinsville First Presbyterian Church, the Betsy Baldwin Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution and the Baldwinsville Travelers Club. Her husband of 61 years, Donald J., died in 1995; a son, John T., died in 1976.

Survivors: A daughter, Judith A. Norris of Baldwinsville; a son, Bruce R. of Baldwinsville; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be 3:00pm, Satuarday, November 16, 2002 at the First Presbyterian Church, Baldwinsville. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery, Baldwinsville. A calling hour will be from 1:30 - 3:00pm Saturday, November 16, 2002 at the church, 64 Oswego Street.
