Obituary

Donald A. Davis of Baldwinsville, New York, passed away peacefully at Francis House, surrounded by love. A man of quiet strength, gentle humor, and unwavering devotion, Don dedicated his life to serving others through his military service, his career, and the care he gave so generously to his family.

Don's greatest pride and joy was his family. For nearly 54 years, he shared a loving marriage with Anne, and together they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and belonging. Forty years ago, they adopted their daughters, Tracy Davis and Kimberly James, and Don embraced fatherhood wholeheartedly. He was immensely proud of the women they became and remained a steady, loving presence throughout their lives.

Don's commitment to service began early. After graduating from Onondaga Valley Academy and earning a Bachelor of Biology degree from SUNY Oswego, he enlisted in the United States Navy, attended Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, and served in Norfolk, Virginia, before continuing his service in the Naval Reserves as a Commander. He later built a distinguished career in water treatment, earning Level IV certification as a Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator and working for the Metropolitan Water Board, O'Brien & Gere, and Barton & Loguidice.

Music was another enduring part of Don's life. He loved playing the flute by ear, accompanying songs on the radio, and continued playing throughout high school, including with the All-City Orchestra.

He was a devoted grandfather to Kenzie, Alyssa, and Maddy. Every Friday, he picked them up from school, prepared special after-school snacks, and tried new recipes with them. These cherished traditions reflected the thoughtfulness, playfulness, and love he brought to every relationship.

Don devotedly cared for his beloved wife, Anne, through her many medical challenges, including breast cancer, a heart transplant, kidney failure, and motor neuron disease, which eventually took away her ability to walk. Through it all, Don remained her steadfast caregiver, standing by her side until her final moments. Anne passed away earlier this month, and Don is now reunited with the love of his life. Together in Heaven, they will celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary.

Don enjoyed fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and bicycling. He also had a green thumb and a talent for growing hybrid orchids. His playful spirit also shone through in his dad jokes and collection of funny shirts.

A prostate and colorectal cancer survivor, Don's colorectal cancer eventually returned. He was predeceased by his parents, Orville and Hilda Davis, and his beloved wife, Anne.

Don is survived by his daughters, Tracy Davis and Kimberly James; sons-in-law, Bryan Donahue and Jonathan James; sisters, Carolyn Davis and Kathy Marple; granddaughters, Kenzie, Alyssa, and Maddy; nephews, Zander Everman and Brian Marple; and several cousins.

Calling hours for Don and Anne will be held jointly at Falardeau Funeral Home 93 Downer St Baldwinsville NY 13202 on November 11, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A service will directly follow at noon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Avenue, Syracuse, NY 13208, in Don's memory or in gratitude for the compassionate care provided to him and his family.
