Donald William (Waldo) Betz, Sr. died Saturday, September 4, 2010, at St. Josephs Hospital. Born May 27, 1929, the oldest son of German immigrants, Willi and Lisa Betz. Don was a graduate of of Sherburne High School and an active participant in 5 sports. He is a WW II veteran and proud member of the American Legion and VFW. After service, he played professional baseball with the Pittsburg Pirates organization. He was an engineer with Sperry Rand Corp. and retired as supervisor of the manufacturing facility in Bristol, TN in 1979. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper. Don met his life's love, Shirley L. Mack in high school and they have been married 60 years.

Survivors: besides his wife are his sons, Larry Betz of NY, Donald Betz of NY; daughter, Doreen Ann Wollmer of Baton Rouge, LA; brother, Robert Betz of NY; grandsons, Michael Adams of NY, David and Danny Betz of Baton Rouge, LA and Kris Wollmer, Baton Rouge, LA; great-grandchildren, Kale, Cody, and Kiana of Adams, NY, Kelsey and Mistie Wollmer of Baton Rouge, LA and Rebecca Betz of Baton Rouge, LA .
