IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daniel J.
Cohen
January 6, 1983 – September 24, 2023
Daniel John Cohen, 40, of Syracuse passed away Sunday at home.
If Daniel's life could be summed up at all, it might involve a mantra from FX's The Bear, a show that (like so many) he championed early in its run: "Every second counts." Every Daniel story reflected his irrepressible desire to experience life at its fullest.
Sometimes that meant dragging family and friends to obscure restaurants or museums, only to have them leave with new enthusiasm (and lots of pictures). He could walk out of any new venue he entered with – if not some sort of prize – at least a friend or two.
He was knowledgeable about the tiniest quirks and vagaries of topics too numerous to list, making him a world-class trivia champion and a formidable bantering partner.
He maintained his hectic travel schedule—celebrating friends' success, catching pro wrestling, wiping the floor in yet another trivia contest—despite a one-in-a-million autoimmune condition that few survive.
From touring rock bands to his tiny nieces and nephews, Daniel brought people together, basking in the delight of sharing something new or absurd. Brilliant, hilarious, steadfast… present. The world misses him already.
Dan is survived by his mother, Lori (Andrew) Williams of Syracuse and father, John (Peg) Cohen of Liverpool; siblings, Alyssa Cohen and Amanda (Jesse La Manna) Cohen of Syracuse, Allison (Derek) Mincher of Pittsford, Andrew (Liz Lankey) Williams of Baldwinsville, Kimberly (Bryan) Bowers of Warners, Melissa (Mike) Farrow of Liverpool and Robert (Alicia Mahar) Corkran of Liverpool; grandmothers Mary Beard and Patricia Cohen, both of Ogdensburg, and Vivian Williams of Florida; his nieces and nephews, Kailyn, Cameron, Mason and Aryel; as well as numerous other cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
He was predeceased by his grandfathers, John "Jack" Cohen and Leslie Williams; and a special cousin, Timothy R. Beldock.
Calling hours will take place Saturday, September 30 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville. A funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home. A reception for family and friends will be held immediately following services from 3 – 6 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 2840 Cold Springs Rd., Baldwinsville. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to one of these organizations: Dialysis Clinic Incorporated (Syracuse, N.Y.); Planned Parenthood; or a suicide prevention organization emphasizing diverse and inclusive support, such as the Trevor Project.
