IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carol A.
Manville
June 17, 1933 – February 22, 2024
Carol A. Manville, 90, of Baldwinsville passed away Thursday at Crouse Hospital with her loving family by her side.
Carol was born and raised in Syracuse. Her spirit and bravery were tested early in life when she was diagnosed with tuberculosis through a school screening. After spending her teenage years in quarantine and treatment, she recovered and was excited for her next chapter to begin.
Soon after, she got a job working at an office. Little did she know that an advertising salesman who visited the office regularly would become her husband and the love of her life.
Carol married Richard Manville in 1955. Together they went on to have five children and a love that would last a lifetime and beyond. They would spend the remainder of their almost 60 married years together in Baldwinsville, where Richard became the publisher of The Baldwinsville Messenger, The North-Syracuse Star News and The Liverpool-Salina Review.
As a young bride, Carol ("Bunny") devoted her life to being a loving wife and mom. That commitment and enthusiasm for family continued throughout the years. She was a proud and doting grandmother and great-grandmother, always eager to hear about the latest milestone or adventure.
Outside of the time she spent caring for her family, she enjoyed working at the cosmetic counter in the local mall as her kids progressed through school. From there, she joined her husband as the receptionist at his business, The Brown Newspapers. She loved greeting the community and getting to know the team at the office, who became like family.
Throughout their years together, Carol and Richard ("Dick") cherished time with friends, tailgating at Syracuse sporting events and visiting their vacation home at Cape Cod. Carol was a volunteer for the Baldwinsville Christmas Bureau and participated in a local book club and gardening club. She was a devout Lutheran who volunteered on the Altar Guild at First English Lutheran Church in Syracuse. She later became an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Baldwinsville.
Carol and Dick spent a long and happy retirement living in McHarrie Towne, where Carol was able to remain until the end. Whether spending time with her family and friends - or her devoted caregivers who supported her in her final years - Carol was known by all who knew her for her kindness and bright smile. Carol's children wish to recognize Nicole, Audrey, Shannon, Debbie and Pilar, aides who provided Carol with loyal and compassionate care in her final 18 months.
Carol was predeceased by her husband, Richard W.; parents, William and Elsie Heikkila; sister, Helen Lutchie and brother, William.
Carol is survived by her children, Richard W. Manville Jr., of Camillus; Tracy (Mark) Hopkins of Baldwinsville; Susan (David) Morgan of Saunderstown, RI; Jill (Raymond) Lawlor of Baldwinsville; and Barbara (Michael) Sheehan of Wayne, PA; eight grandchildren, Jonathan (Mary) Hopkins, Katherine (Jon) House, Stephen Hopkins, Erin Lawlor, Christian Lawlor, Will Sheehan, Emma Sheehan and Matthew Morgan; three great-grandchildren, Elijah Hopkins, Natalie Hopkins and Beren House; and nephew, William Heikkila.
Calling hours will be Monday, February 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 27, at 9 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 2840 Cold Springs Rd., Baldwinsville.
