August 20, 1925 – December 30, 2013
Carl M. Nielsen, 88, of Baldwinsville passed away at Iroquois Nursing Home on December 30, 2013. He was born on August 20, 1925 in Des Moines, Iowa. He worked at General Electric Electronic Parkway, Liverpool in research engineering for 35 years. Carl earned his associate degree from Grand View College in Des Moines, Iowa and later completed his Masters degree in Mathematics along with a minor in electrical engineering at Poly Technical Institute in San Luis Obispo, CA. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II.
Carl was always an avid folk dancer since his college days. He continued dancing with the S. U. International Folk Dance Troop. Later he organized the Syracuse Scandia Performing Group, thereby teaching and directing Scandinavian dances for many years. He was a member of Sons of Norway in Syracuse as well as the Lions Club of Baldwinsville.
Survivors: Wife; Janis Christensen; Sons, Christian M. of Oswego, Carl G. of Moorestown, NJ
and daughters, Karina L. Davis Delta, Colorado and J. Robin Jonsson of Runsten, Sweden. Grandchildren; Kristina, Valerie, Marianne, Ellen, Christiane, Peter, Aaron, Elizabeth and Devin.
His brothers' children on the west coast Joan, Denice, Stephen and Barbara.
Carl is predeceased by his father Julius Marius Nielsen, mother Otilia Louisa Nielsen and brothers Thomas Nielsen
and Niels C. Nielsen.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire congregation of Community Christian Reform Church on Hicks Road along with a special thanks to Paster Brent Pennings.
The thoughtfulness and gracious consideration Carl received at Iroquois Nursing Home for the two weeks he stayed there was a wonderful blessing.
A service at 7823 Hicks Road Community Christian Reformed Church on Friday January 3, 2014 will be held at 4:00pm followed by a dinner in the church hall. Private Burial will be in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery.
