Barney Mathewson Jr., 55, of Syracuse passed Friday at Upstate University Hospital surrounded by his loved ones.  Born in Johnson City, he moved to Syracuse in 2001.

Barney attended Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida and received his associates degree in Hospitality Management from SUNY Broome Community College.

Barney was assistant general manager at Applebee's in Clay for many years and was previously employed as general manager with Ruby Tuesday for 15 years.

He was an avid sports fan, loved watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboys, playing golf, and traveling.  He loved chicken wings and listening to music.  Barney enjoyed spending time at his camp at Brennans Beach and time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Predeceased by his maternal grandparents, James and June Smithgall and paternal grandparents, Elwood and Betty Mathewson; uncle, Gordon (Sherill) Mathewson; and aunt, Roberta Gwara.

Barney is survived by his wife who was the "love of his life" the former Charlene McLaggan; parents, Barney and Nancy Mathewson Sr.; children, Lauren (Cody) Miles, Nick (Brooke Yerian) Leonard, Michael Mathewson, Kathleen Mathewson, and Samuel Mathewson; sister, Molly Dunham; niece, Aubrey Dunham and nephew, Grant Dunham; and grandchildren who were the love of his life, Ellianna "Stinky" and Leo "Beo" Miles.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, May 23 from 3 -6 p.m. at the Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville.  A service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family wishes to invite you to a "Celebration of Life" at the Baldwinsville American Legion, Smokey Hollow Rd.,  immediately following the services.
